  2. The particulars of its organisation, functions and duties:
    • The National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), founded in 2007, is a national institution for education and research in the basic sciences. The Institute is governed by a Board. Information about the present Director of the institute is given in About > Director page.
    • NISER is supported by the Department of Atomic Energy of the Government of India. Institute members work primarily in the areas of basic sciences e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. At a later stage activities will expand to include Earth and Planetary sciences, Engineering sciences and Computer science.
    • The Institute has an active integrated five year M.Sc program to which a group of students are are selected through a nation wide entrance test NEST to build a sound foundation in a basic science subject. NISER has also started integrated M.Sc-Ph.D program and Ph.D program. NISER will host scientists at the post-doctoral level and supports visiting scientists for short and long term visit.     • NISER has its own campus which includes academic buildings, student hostels, staff quarters, guest house, canteen, sports complex and all other facilities at Jatni, Khurda - about 25 kms from the Bhubaneswar railway station.
    • NISER has its own fast growing library and laboratories in each science subjects. The computers of institute are well connected by high speed network and whole academic area is Wi-Fi enabled.
    • Director is the Executive Head of the organisation. He is assisted by the faculty members in respect of all academic matters, and by the Registrar in all other administration and financial matters. The administrative and management of the Institute shall be under the supervision of an Board of Governors.
